Building an Astrology AI Platform: From Chart Engine to LLM Interpretation

Deterministic computation plus RAG over classical texts — how we architect astrology AI that users trust.

Astrology AI fails when models invent chart positions. Production platforms like Navamsha AI pair a deterministic chart engine with RAG over classical texts so math stays auditable and language stays fluent. Believers forgive slow UI; they do not forgive wrong moon signs — deterministic computation is the trust foundation every astrology AI must lay first.

Architecture rule

Deterministic charts + RAG citations. LLMs interpret; they do not compute positions.

Chart engine first

Compute lagna, dashas, transits, and divisional charts with ephemeris libraries — Swiss Ephemeris or equivalent. Expose structured JSON the LLM consumes; never ask the model to calculate degrees. Users trust products that show the same chart twice. Expose ayanamsa choice and house system in settings — advanced users verify against desktop software they trust. Birth time uncertainty UI: let users mark approximate times and show sensitivity of dasha boundaries.

Cache chart outputs per birth data hash. Version ephemeris and ayanamsa settings — changes affect every historical reading. Unit test edge cases: midnight births, DST transitions, polar latitudes. Precompute divisional charts once per birth hash and store JSON — regenerating on every chat message wastes compute and introduces inconsistency if ephemeris updates mid-session.

RAG over classical corpora

Index Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Jataka texts, and curated commentaries with chapter and verse metadata. Retrieval filters by chart features — planet, house, yoga — before generation. Citations to classical sources differentiate serious platforms from horoscope toys. Filter retrieval by active dasha lord, transiting planets, and house placements — generic semantic search returns irrelevant shlokas that erode expert credibility. Include translator and chapter in citation UI so users cross-check with physical books.

Fine-tune for tone and multilingual phrasing, not for factual claims. Human astrologers review golden sets for cultural nuance and refusal boundaries. Human astrologer review queues should flag readings where retrieval confidence is low — route to expert correction before delivery. Multilingual generation must test Devanagari rendering in PDF exports, not only web UI.

Product and compliance UX

Disclaimers, privacy for birth data, and export/delete flows are table stakes. Offer both conversational interpretation and structured report PDFs. Birth data is sensitive PII — encrypt at rest, minimize retention, and offer export/delete aligned with DPDP expectations. WhatsApp delivery of readings needs opt-in and rate limits to prevent spam reports.

Spiritual tech users share when readings feel personalized and grounded. See our Vedic training guide for corpus preparation details. Structured PDF reports complement chat — many users share PDFs on family WhatsApp groups. Connect corpus preparation in our Vedic training guide before scaling interpretive features.

What to do next

Start with one measurable outcome — latency, accuracy, adoption, or revenue — and design your stack around that constraint. GenOrbit ships production AI systems across healthcare, astrology, fintech, and SaaS; if you want a second pair of eyes on architecture or delivery, we are happy to talk.
